Music festivals not only offer the traditional concert experience of heading to the stage to see the celebrities perform but also provide you a bigger entertainment experience. Here are the three music festivals worth hitting in July2019.
New Orleans, LA
Essence Festival has always been much more than just a music festival. It also offers a variety of exhibitions and conferences on business, black fashion, and beauty spliced between sets from the likes of 2019’s artists: Pharrell, Missy Elliott, Brandy, Mary J. Blige, and more. The year 2019 marks the 25th anniversary of the event, so expect big things to go on down south.
Forecastle has a stacked lineup this year. The Avett Brothers, The Killers, and Anderson .Paak & the Free Nationals all headline this event and are joined by buzzy acts such as Portugal. the Man, Maggie Rogers, Jungle, Midland, CHVRCHES, and more. But the real selling point of this music festival remains how damn easy it is. In 2018, during its 16th iteration, Forecastle saw its biggest crowds ever; however, it’s still a remarkably-hassle free event. Combine that would the ocean of bourbon which supports it (not seriously, make a fast stop at the Bourbon Lodge) as well as the views of the Ohio river surrounding it, and you’ve got music festival Valhalla.
Pitchfork Music Festival
This summer, the Isley Brothers celebrate their 60th anniversary and Pitchfork Music Festival is playing host. Stereolab will play its first show in North America in a decade at the festival and Mavis Staples, Chicago institution, also will offer another big check in the throwback box. All three are then joined by current critical darlings including HAIM, Robyn, Belle & Sebastian, Kurt Vile, Pusha-T, Charli XCX, Snail Mail, Soccer Mommy, Jeremih, and more round out the lineup.
